Improving your endurance will allow you to work a certain intensity or for an extended amount of time. See the maximum rate that your body can consume oxygen during exercises is the most popular measurement of aerobic capacity.
Although endurance ability is mostly a matter of genetics, maximal uptake can be improved with targeted training. High intensity interval training workout have been showing to do the trick, increasing athletes VO2 max (maximal oxygen consumption) . As continuous practice of long distance running or other form of cardio can also help convert fast-twitch muscles to slow-twitch muscles which will enhance endurance.
